Great historic video. Comparing this one to the current ones seeing all the clearings and unblocked views and the lack of timber on the hills. A lot has grown up in the last 30+ years. Too bad the loop track in Mineral is gone. Even seeing the changes in Elbe with the new depot and the hobo inn not there yet. I grew up there in the PNW, and the family still has cabins and property in Ashford. It's great to see what WFIM has been doing to get the railroad back running.

God... the fact that most JMJ Videos are quickly becoming "Lost Media" is sad. There's VHS's my brother and I grew up watching, have saved (hopefully still preserved OK), yet no copies available anywhere online, and us without proper tech to transfer everything to digital. :(

I still find it somewhat hard to believe that this locomotive was stronger than the Challenger 3985. What a majestic engine that 1218, and a beautiful hooter whistle to suit it.

Thanks for uploading this! Fun fact: This steam engine was used in the 1990 movie Come See the Paradise with Sandra Oh & Dennis Quaid. It was taken all the way down in northern Oregon at a siding where they filmed it

TYCO really tried to make their train sets look cool and highend but the truth is that they’re really terrible.

I honestly like the original screaming NKP 5 Chime whistle during 1988 and 1989. It kind of reminds me of a V10 engine with the way you can hear it scream in the distance as the locomotive goes by. But the second NKP 5 Chime also sounds amazing. You can never really go wrong when it comes to a steam locomotive's whistle in my humble opinion.
